THE VASTNESS OF THE UNIVERSE
I have always been in awe of the vastness of our universe, the concept of interplanetary distance and the idea of time in relationship to other galactic location will never cease to amaze me. It is always interesting to know that our planet Earth has so far been the only avenue that supports civilization in the entire universe. This is true because we are yet to come across any planet that supports life even though there have been speculations that some Earth planetary features have been known to be associated with some at distant galaxies. In our Solar system where among the 8 planets, only Earth supports civilization and planet Mars has been found to have possibility of accommodating life and efforts have now been put in place to terraform it so as we could assume the title of ‘multiplanetary species’. Yet, it will take one 6 to 9 month of uninterrupted space journey about 225million kilometers to move from Earth to Mars, which means the communication would be no longer business as usual as we cannot have live chat or video between people on Mars and that of Earth.
Our sun that became source of life
and energy to vast species on Earth is so far from us, roughly 3million
kilometers that it takes light 8 minutes to reach the Earth. This is to say the
light we experience at the moment was generated 8 minutes ago from the sun.
This is just within the solar system and it would just keep expanding and
becoming thought provoking as we navigate further within our own Milky Way
galaxy. To know that there are billions of stars in our Milky Way Galaxy is
mind blowing, no wonder before the invention of Hubble telescope in 1920s,
astronomers used to assume that Milky Way Galaxy is our last cosmic address.
But to our surprise, there are billions if not trillions of similar galaxies
like that of Milky Way throughout the universe. This simply demonstrated the
unending need for research not just to satisfy our curiosity but to create
developmental patterns in every sphere of life.
To learn something new, has always been mind-refreshing and human naturally are blessed with endless quest to know more and there is better vehicle in accomplishing this than books. Books have always been the source of enlightenment since time immemorial and no thirst for knowledge that could be satisfy without them, which made them principally the primary storage for knowledge. Thanks to digital age, e-books along side other channels were unleashed that could be as informative and transformative as book, the likes of Youtube channels, Google etc.
Learning has always been part of human civilization as it has been the
sole entity that could be attributed to the attainment of virtually all the
stages of human civilization development and it all started with human being
becoming aware of themselves, their surroundings which further reached to the
point of making signs on stones and rocks which later metamorphosed into full
scale writing and reading, thereby ensuring the continuity of knowledge
dissemination.
