WHAT IS THIS TEDx CONFERENCE THAT YOU DID?
TED was founded in 1984 as a foundation aiming to discuss ideas that have to do with Technology, Entertainment, and Design. It became fully functional around 2001, conducting conferences twice a year, inviting speakers to talk about technology, science, humanity, environment, health, community, child development, activism, and many other topics in the US with a motto ‘ideas worth spreading’.
All the speakers give powerful talks that can change attitudes, bring new ideas, or even change some narratives in a maximum of only 18 minutes. The TED conference was open to anyone who has any idea worth sharing, and they don't have to be professional speakers. This gives room for everyone to tell their untold stories.
As TED conferences became increasingly popular, people across the globe wanted to participate. To meet this demand, TED created TEDx events, where the 'x' stands for independently organized local events. Volunteers passionate about TED talks can now seek licenses from the TED foundation to hold their local TEDx events, inviting people in their community to share ideas, tell untold stories, and spark deep conversations.
In our own little way, we therefore sought a license in April and were granted it, with our desired date set for 28th September, 2019. We started headhunting speakers and inviting them for rehearsals to ensure their content was up to standard and didn't deviate from the set rules. Some had 15 rehearsals, some 10, yet each had to have a minimum of 5 rehearsals before us. Alhamdulillah, all our 10 speakers made it, and we successfully conducted the event curated by Misbahu El-Hamza (@misbahuelhamza).
It will interest to you to know that we were the team that did TEDxBabaDanBaffaSt. as far back as 2017 curated by Mudassir Suleiman Abdullahi (@taubat1234). And thanks to publicity we gave to the event, it was part of the reasons, we witnessed the proliferation of TEDx events especially among tertiary institutions in Norther Nigeria.
The similitude of leafing through the piece is like riding Stephen Hawkins’s “Time Travel Machine” to my 2017/2019 TEDx experiences respectively. My comments: you ought to extrapolate about ‘TEDx’ impacts and history across the Northern Nigeria gave birth by ‘our’ debut TEDxBabaDanBaffaSt in 2017. Then, the link to the aforementioned persons, that is Misbahu El-Hamza and Muddassir should be attached to their links, website, or social media handles of theirs. This will be amenable for those who wanted to know more about them, like contacting them for organizing their TEDx events, etc. thanks
ReplyDeleteThank you Mudassir. I have noted your observations and it has been effected. It's a pleasure working with you.
